Designed for a competition in Queens, New York, my team of friends and I put together the following proposal.
Aperture is at once an object—a white box sitting in the landscape. Built in a traditional system of modular components, the folly repurposes PVC pipes, a utilitarian product used here as a both a finish and structural material. The mystery of the box unfolds within, where the inherent form of the pipes that make up the roof and walls give way to a unique transparency and a filtering of views and light.
Aperture began as an exploration of using repetitive elements to create a form organized by a modular grid.  What began as a simple idea became a study of the dynamic qualities of light and personal interaction with an object.
